Threenager Behaviour: Happy Birthday, Hudson!

IMG_0282.JPG

Time is, by far, the strangest concept for me. On one hand, I feel like it was just yesterday that Hudson lived inside of me, sending shock waves of kicks and hiccups through my abdomen. On the other hand, I feel like I have known him my entire life. In fact, I tell many close friends and family that I pity the pre-Hudson person I once was. What motivated me? What inspired me? What did I do with all of my time? How empty my heart must have been. I had no idea how much room I had in it to welcome such a little being. Hudson truly is my life, soul, and purpose.

As his third birthday draws near, I wanted to write to him. I did this last year, too, and I can't believe how much has changed in a mere 365 days.

Hudson,

You're officially a threenager. You're full of laughter, jokes, conversations, love, and (at times) attitude. {*Pass the wine!*} You sure are stubborn sometimes, but I'm proud that you're passionate and know what you want. You frustrate me when you sometimes rebel and lash out, but I'm happy you're doing it now, rather than later.  Your personality is larger than life, and your thoughtful, kindhearted nature is humbling and heartwarming.  There is no better feeling in the world than hearing you say, "I love you, Mommy".... "Mommy, you are so pretty!".... and, "Mommy, you're the best!" You definitely know how to lift my spirits like no one else on Earth and I want you to know that you are the best thing in every day, and will be until the end of time.

In your future, I want you to do what you love, while loving all those you encounter. Be respectful and inclusive, and continue to be inquisitive, intelligent, and insightful. Remain eager and motivated, but always remember to take the time to enjoy each moment and phase of your life. Never forget that I am here to support you and guide you. I'm all ears for anything it is that you want to, or need to, talk about. I want us to continue to grow and strengthen this special bond that we have, by maintaining our open lines of communication and mutual trust. I will relentlessly reserve the time to make it my top priority for you to be an independent, respectful gentleman, by giving you the tools and knowledge you need in order to do that. (i.e. Continuing to put down the toilet seat after every pee. Thank you, my little man.)

Whatever it is that makes you happy, Hudson, I'll be my happiest witnessing you do that. You light up the lives of so many around you, and none of us can picture our lives without knowing you.

With every breath that I take, with every blink that I make, and with every beat of my heart, I am loving you, even when I'm not with you.

Enjoy your special birthday weekend, buddy.

Love,

Mommy xo
